Election 2004 - "Press release? What press release?"

Earlier today, JustOneMinute published a post on a Kerry-Edwards Campaign press release titled "The 2004 GOP Convention: Four Days Filled With Lies, Mischaracterizations, Distortions, And Half-Truths" claiming to find such in various speeches given at the Republican Convention.

Both JustOneMinute and Powerline opined on the wisdom of attacking Senator McCain, who's speech was excerpted, although its unclear whether it was a considered a lie, a mischaracterization, a distortion, or a half-truth.

By 5:49 pm readers were already pointing out that the release had disappeared from Kerry's web site.

Here is the link to where the press release was. No luck. Fortunately, its been backed up here and here.

Evidence of the missing press release can be found at the
Kerry-Edwards website itself.

On September 3rd, the four press releases (see links at the Kerry site)are numbered:

pr_2004_0903.html
pr_2004_0903a.html
pr_2004_0903b.html
pr_2004_0903c.html

On September 4th the two releases are:

pr_2004_0904.html
pr_2004_0904a.html

On September 6th the three releases are:

pr_2004_0906.html
pr_2004_0906a.html
pr_2004_0906b.html

But on September 5th we have:

pr_2004_0905.html
?
pr_2004_0905b.html

The second press release of the day, the one discussed above, has now disappeared. A review of September 2nd also reveals that the "d" and "e" releases are apparently missing (damn that penchant for sequential numbering!).

It looks like the Kerry Campaign is dutifully following the flip-flop policies of Senator Kerry himself: "We actually issued that release before we withdrew it."
